Users of Internet Explorer and Netscape browsers may like to know that there are steps they can take to enlarge text and set colours when viewing Web sites. The following may be helpful :

If you use MS Internet Explorer for PC :
Go into Internet Explorer
Go into Tools Menu
Then choose Internet options
Click General tab
Click Accessibility
Check the top and bottom boxes (i.e. Ignore font sizes specified on Web pages item and Ignore colours specified on web pages)
Click OK as prompted
Next, go into the View Menu
Select Text size and set to your preferred size

If you use MS Internet Explorer for Apple Mac
Go into Internet Explorer
Go into Edit Menu
In Options, select Preferences
Click Web Content
Deselect Show Style Sheets
Return to Preferences list
Click on Web Browser

To set font size if you use Netscape Navigator :
Select Edit, then Preferences from the menu
Open the Appearance group and click Fonts
Make sure that it says Western next to For the Encoding so that your computer will know which letters and symbols types to use. Select 18 from Size
In the drop down list next to Variable Width Font field select 'Arial'. Check that the The Fixed Width Font box is already set at 'Courier New' . Select 18 from Size
So that your computer will use the above specifications rather than those specified in the Web page you are viewing, select Use my Default Fonts Overriding Document Specified Fonts and click OK

To control colours if you use Netscape Navigator :
Select Edit then preferences from the menu
Open the Appearance group and click Colours
Select a color button of your choice to change text, background, unvisited links, or visited links.
So that your computer will use the above specifications rather than those specified in the Web page you are viewing, select Always Use My Colours, Overriding Document and click 'OK'

Accessibility Options in Netscape Navigator:

If you are involved in designing accessible web sites, then you need to test out your site in Netscape using these options to check on the design and layout.

To access most of the accessibility options that you can change in Netscape Navigator, select "Edit" from the main top menu, then "Preferences".

To override text and background colours- select "Advanced" and uncheck the box that says "Enable style sheets". Then at the top, under "Appearance", select "Colors". You can then change the text and background colours to suit your needs.

Changing fonts - select "Edit" from the main top menu, then "Preferences" then "Appearance". Now click on fonts and you can choose whichever font you like to display the web page. But this option will only work if you have already disabled the style sheet as described above.

Changing font sizes - just select "View" from the top menu, then either choose "Increase Font" or "Decrease Font".

Turning off graphics and images - I always find this rather tricky in Netscape. From the "Edit" menu at the top, select "Preferences", then "Advanced". One of the options which is normally "ticked" is "Automatically load images". If you uncheck that box, then all images should be replaced by small image icons, but the actual graphics are not downloaded. However, this does seem to be a bit erratic at times.
