The Bath Folk Club

Marick and Louise are pleased to announce the Launch of the Bath Folk Club Bringing the Best Accoustic Acts to Bath

Our main aim with the folk club is to raise the profile of the excellent Folk Music Scene here in Bath and to bring outside acts to the city. We will be providing a platform in a great venue for guests to perform and listen to each other and an opportunity to hear bands and artists that often wouldn't be heard here. We Aim to bring gigs of the highest quality and greatest fun to you with a chance to be involved as well.

We wish to include Instrumental music, Singing, and Dancing, and hope to include workshops some time in the Future.

We will be running a Big concert every month. These will always be on a Friday although not necessarily the same Friday every month as our bookings are subject to the availability of the Bands.

We will also be running a singing Group every month which will be hosted by Nancy kerr, and supported by Louise Baxter Jennifer Crook and Sue Hart. They are all singers with a wealth of experience behind them and will using this night to share songs and traditions and to get everybody singing together. These will be at the Widcombe Social Club on the third Wednesday of every month. It will cost £3 for singers and £4 for listeners.

Our Venue is Widcombe Social Club right in the heart of Bath which is easy to get to by road and just minutes walk away from the train and Bus stations. It's a nice, friendly, clean venue with a really nice sound and cheap beer.

The Address of the venue is:

We'll we have just had a very successful Launch for the Bath Folk club, which were very pleased with. The turn out was excellent,(we estimated it to be about 120 people)and the Atmosphere was electric. We felt there was a perfect balance of informal action and an organised concert, with everybody coming together which is what we want it all to be about. This is a club where everybody is involved and we want to offer something for everybody. A few people described it as feeling like a festival, which we took as a compliment.

Crucible played a fantastic set, that Stunned the whole audience, and we will definitely be having them back. They are a band that have really studied their craft with lots of care. The tunes are arranged with a real sense of art and energy that

shows the potential of the English tradition fully realised. James Fagan and Nancy Kerr were also fantastic and the concert ended with them joining crucible for a huge finale. We could not have hoped for a better start to kick things off. We hope that we can keep this kind of momentum and build on it. Hopefully you will all continue to support the club and feel involved.

We would like to thank first and foremost everybody who came and made the night feel so good. We would also like to thank the Following people for there support which Made the Whole night Possible.

Bob and Dawn who run Widcombe social club, for opening their doors and welcoming us in.

James Fagan and Nancy Kerr, Whose input and support has been really invaluable from the first concepts and are continuing to put there huge wealth of experience into the club (They have played over 300 folk clubs together).

And the Following people who pitched in on the night, It would have been impossible without you all:

David Garner

Phil Allen

Josh Clark

Alan Burton

I'm really sorry if any one has been forgotten. But thanks to everyone involved

Next Month, (Friday 9th of May) we have Cyser booked to play. They are one of the Southwest's most accomplished and established bands in the French Dance Music traditions, Performing Music from Central France and Brittany as well as many of their own Compositions. we will have a big space for Dancing, and we are really looking forward to having them play. The line up includes Bagpipes, Hurdy Gurdy, Accordion and Violin. They are Absolutely Excellent and you can check out their music on www.myspace.com/cyser.

We have just heard that Cliff Stapleton of the Excellent Primaevil (and formerly of Blowzabella) will be coming to play a short set. This is making us all very excited indeed.

The format of the Club will be doors opening at 8pm with an informal session to start things off which all are welcome to join in. We only ask that players play with respect and care for other peoples music (Standard session etiquette applies). This will go for about half an hour and will then be followed by informal floor spots where guest will invited to come on stage and sing.

Other's who wish to perform a guest slot can do so by arriving Early and signing in. If you can let us know your technical requirements as you sign in that will be great as all the time we can save will be valuable. Guests can do either two short songs or one long song. There is only a 45 minute window for this so it might not always be possible to accommodate everyone. If you are coming from a long way away and wish to perform and think it might be impossible to get there early then get in touch and we'll see what we can do to fit you in. Again this is subject to space and time available.

the band will run between 9:15 and 11pm. we then will have an informal session and dancing between 11pm and 1am which every body is welcome to join in on. The club is also open for drinking till 1am.

We are looking forward to seeing you all there.
