About inu

For those who our new to us, here's a little bit about ourselves.

Inu came together in the spring of 2002 to put together a fresh sound of the music we love. We are all from very different backgrounds but have a common ground in traditional music, in particular the Irish tradition in which we are all actively Involved with in the local scene.

Our set is a crafted tapestry of tunes and songs from Ireland, Britain, West and Eastern Europe that we have picked up during our extensive travelling, as well as our own compositions. We aim to play our music with Integrity, sincerity and respect for all of the traditions from which we draw upon.

The name Inu comes from the word inua of the Inuit tribe of North America and means soul or high spirit. We felt that this described perfectly what we wished to convey in our music, and gave the feeling of the music being alive.

We have also found out since that Inu also means dog in Japanes and that Innu also means today in Irish. These words also fit in with our sensibilities so that's o.k. If any one has any other meanings or translations so please feel free to contact us and let us know. We are always interested in hearing what any one has to say an welcome people's views and opinions on our music and gigs.

Since we have started we have played numerous festivals venues and arts centres and have been very well received. Our debut album the Thousand mile journey features three original compositions. two tunes from Marick Baxter and and John's mermaid, a song written by Louise Baxter about her great grandfather losing his life at sea.
